Looking for a Novice Crew, Friendship, Competent Crew or 1st Mate position
I’m a 45 year old, single professional with 27 years in television as a newscaster and now advertising video/director/editor. Private pilot working on my commercial license. The past 12 months I’ve had an amazing experience sailing 1200+ miles with famous YouTube captain Simon Brown aboard S/V Britican, a 56’ Oyster (the Bentley of the seas) and on S/V Manava, a 50’ Lagoon. My first tour on Britican was nearly 3 months and my second on Manava was nearly 3 weeks. I’ve done 19 hour overnight passages from Antigua to Sint Maarten and back for maintenance, day sails to St. Barths and Barbuda and many remote islands in between, as well as long multi day hauls moving Britican from Antigua to Grenada for hurricane season. A majority of this time was spent with guests on board for Britican experiences, where I carried out duties as first mate and videographer for Sailing Britican’s popular YouTube channel. I also did everything from replacing water pumps, to going up the mast for repairs, washing decks (love a clean boat) and laundering/changing sheets as well as cooking meals for everyone on board and helping out the captain where needed. I love cooking, extremely easy going, laid back and love joking around, laughing, while winding down the night with a little wine and a board or card game. I do have a day job, but all my professional work is done remotely and schedule by me. Having Starlink onboard is a plus, but I work plenty and just as easy from my personal hotspot. I love the cruising lifestyle and community and I will eventually buy a sailboat at some point, but I would like a little more experience working around/on/with one before moving forward.
