Experienced Stew/Deck on S/Y
Hello,
I know you’re busy looking for the right crew member, so I’ll keep it brief. My name is Valerie. I’m 29 years old and British. I am interested in either a Deckhand or deck/stew position on a sailing vessel (of any size), so that i can continue to grow in my career and expand my experince and skills.
Experience – Deckhand/Stew
I am currently working on a 67ft charter catamaran in the Mediterranean and Caribbean, having sailed over 7,000 nautical miles, including an Atlantic crossing. My sailing experience spans Italy, France, Spain, Gibraltar, Morocco, Cape Verde, and the Caribbean. As part of my responsibilities, I assist with docking manoeuvres, rigging the gennaker, hoisting and trimming sails, and keeping watch both day and night. I’m experienced in working with winches, gel coat repair, and basic engine checks, as well as maintaining teak and fibreglass.
Guest Services
In addition to deckhand duties, I look after guests on luxury charter holidays, providing exceptional dining experiences, making cocktails, serving wine, and offering unique onshore expeditions. I’m also involved in water activities, including snorkelling, tubing, and knee boarding. I manage all interior spaces, ensuring cabins and public areas are kept to the highest standard. Furthermore, I assist with provisioning, laundry, and maintaining finances onboard, providing detailed reports for the owner on all spending and boat upkeep.
Previous Experience – Hospitality
With a strong background in hospitality, including managing multiple restaurants and events such as a wine festival and beer and cider festival, I bring excellent communication skills and a customer service-oriented mindset to my work. I’m used to high-pressure environments and long hours, always delivering attentive, professional service. I’ve led teams, managed bars, and hosted a variety of events, allowing me to engage easily with guests in a personable, yet professional way.

• VHF License
• STCW Courses
• ENG1 Medical
• 7,000+ nautical miles sailed
• Extensive knowledge of collision regulations, chartwork, and working with large tides.
Personality
I approach my work with a steady focus and a sense of responsibility, always ensuring that tasks are completed to a high standard without needing to be reminded. I’m reliable, conscientious, and aware of the dynamics needed to work well with others, especially in a confined space. I appreciate clear communication, but also know when to step back and allow others the space to lead or manage their tasks. While I take my role seriously, I bring a sense of good humor and a balanced perspective, knowing that maintaining a positive atmosphere and respecting each other’s space is key to a smooth-running crew. I’m tidy and organized, always keeping the boat in top condition, and I take pride in maintaining the professionalism required in a high-end charter environment.
