Seeking 1-2 week trips to gain sea miles. Can travel.
Hello.
Short version:
Looking to gain sea miles by joining trips of 1-2 weeks, preferably starting or finishing in Australia but happy to travel.
Long version:
I’m recently semi-retired and with the kids largely out of the way and time largely on my side, I’m looking to re-aquaint myself with sailing. Other than completing the 5 day Competent Crew course, I have crewed on a few trips on Australia's east coast. I have done about 1500nm, including several overnighters with solo-watches. I completed the RYA Essential Navigation course and will soon finalise the Coastal Skipper Theory.
I prefer to be active and involved when on board, and want to learn rather than just sit back.
I’m keen on regular midweek day or overnight trips in South East Queensland to get some experience up, and am happy to put my hand up and fly further afield for longer passages to help out anyone who is open to giving me a go.
I’m a keen learner, physically and mentally fit, enjoy a range of other outdoor pursuits (sea-kayaking, canoeing, bike packing, hiking) and am pretty easy going, and self-reliant. I don’t lose my sh*t easily, can follow directions and enjoy a good belly laugh. I like to pay my way and pull my weight.
I’d be happy to meet up sometime if you’d like to see if we’re a good fit.
Excellent Crew
Bryan, It was a pleasure to meet you and to have you on board sailing with me. I really enjoyed your company and you are a great guy, fun to be with. You were awesome on the foredeck setting the spinnaker pole in the 25knot southery and reefing the mainsail without a hassel. You kept my boat clean and tidy so you were an asset to me. I'd have no hesitation in recommending you to anyone and I'd love to have you come back on board my yacht Kia Ora sailing anytime. Cheers.
