Looking for a position as non paid crew on your boat. Eager to learn more.
Hello there,
My name is Gustavo (29 yo from Portugal) and I am happy to meet you.
I spent 6 weeks as a volunteer aboard the tall ship Galeón Andalucia, where I learned not only about sailing and general nautical aspects but a bit of everything like aspects of maintenance, navigation and communication systems, preparation for emergency situations, cooking, cleaning, night and security watches, piloting etc. We went from Calais in the north of France, down to the Cantabrian Sea and then around Galicia and Portugal into the Mediterranean coast of Spain. The longest nonstop sail was 7 days.
I then sailed with a family from La Línea de la Concepción to Lanzarote. which took us about 6 days and I became a lot more familiar with modern sailboats.
I did the Atlantic crossing East to West, from Cape Verde to Martinique, a much longer crossing which proved challenging but where I consolidated a lot of previous learning and some more. After that I crewed in a crossing from Barbate Spain to Tunis in Tunisia stopping in Sardinia, a fun but very active journey of about 10 days.
I have also done a few day sailing courses and while I have a lot more to learn still, I believe I can be a very helpful deckhand and crew.
I speak English, Portuguese, Spanish and even a little French and consider myself to be very easygoing, respectful, and hard working. Very eager to have a new experience and keep learning.
If any Captain has an opening, I would love to chat beforehand, through Skype or mobile phone (I can give more details in pm) to get to know a bit and try to make sure there are no disappointments on either end. I always find it important to feel sure of the captain’s skills and experience.
Kind regards and fair winds
