Stuck RTW motorcycle traveler looking for opportunity to work and learn on upcoming ocean crossing!
In July of last year, I left my career and life in New York and set off on my motorcycle with the plan of riding to southern Argentina. Nine months and 20,000 km later, I'm now "stuck" in Colombia with closed land borders ahead on the way south (and no clear indication that they will open any time soon).
Now, I'm in search of a new opportunity to work and learn cruise sailing for the indefinite future while the land route south re-opens.
I have little previous sailing experience, but I'm extremely eager for the chance to learn and work and become entrenched in a new challenge. And although it's probably over-stated here: I'm extremely self-reliant, very easy-going, but also technically-minded and have a knack for always finding way to get my hands dirty / be helpful.
In an ideal case, I'm be looking for a crew/partner to join for an ocean crossing, who would be willing to teach me the ropes in return for work on board. Location/destination is not an important, but I'm looking for a longer journey to learn on. (I have a U.S. passport.) I'm happy to meet you in Colombia or Panama - or potentially wherever your trip begins.
If it's any bonus: I do have a basic-level of boat construction/maintenance experience (building a few runabouts as a kid), and I'm eager to learn more. I see this as an opportunity to challenge myself, learn a new skill, and help out while exploring a passion that I don't yet know much about.

Fast developing sailor
Dan is a robust and reliable personality. Dan sailed with me from St Maarten to The Azores as wachts leader despite the limited seatime he realised the task in a good manner. Dan is allert and knows how to handle and build more experience in: controlling the yacht, controlling the navigation and the weather systems. Dan is communicating very clear and will cope with it. Characteristic is his analytic capabilities and personnel attentions for other crew and captain he will just leave the watch with the words "is there something else I can do for you!"
