Profesional skipper/deckhand available for Caribbean season
I'm looking for a skipper/deckhand position in the Caribbean
I'm a 35 years old professional skipper and I've just finished my 2nd season working in Croatia and Greece doing charters on monos and cats. I'm a commercially endorsed yachtmaster offshore.
A bit about me:
I have an engineering degree in electronics and I have good understanding of mechanics and physics in general. I'm a mature person, fit, very responsible, good at fixing stuff, good cook and quick learner. I enjoy life and I am usually funny, but I can also have a good conversation.
My motivation:
After working for many years in big companies, I realized that corporate jobs are not for me and I wanted to become a professional skipper. I bought a small sailboat (an Amigo 27), learned how to sail and I gained enough miles to get my (commercially endorsed) yachtmaster license. I then managed to secure a job as skipper for charters in Croatia and Greece which I really enjoyed. I am now looking to get more experience on different boats and become a better sailor.
First mate on my Norway expedition
Raul is relatively new to sailing but absolutely has the good setting for it. I trusted him with my boat from the first moment I saw him act behind the wheel. He is a very smart and responsible captain (he has his own boat, more on that later...) and also very fun and entertaining company for the after sails hours. We spent a whole month together in an international crew and this proved his more than average people skills as well, having to deal with roommates with different mindsets. He is precise and has eye for detail. Even under high pressure he keeps cool and functions well. We were caught on our way back from Norway by a "Northsea Channel rat", a mini hurricane with 50 mph windspeeds and severe rain while he was on shift, and he reacted perfectly well, trying to get the boat stable again, getting the sails down and circling in the same spot as water was very narrow and navigation systems gave up due to heavy rainfall. (touchscreens are rubbish in storms...) In these intense 15 minutes Raul kept cool shouting the right commands to keep the sometimes over-enthousiast crewmembers safe. I forgot to write this review until last weekend we went sailing again this time on Rauls boat, a 27 feet Swedish built Amigo together with a few friends. We had great weather this time and we enjoyed sailing to the max. I would highly recommend Raul both as a crewmember and as a captain. He just breathes sailing... Fair winds and I am sure we will undertake more challenging trips in the next years together with amazing crews... PS if you have him as a crew member please do stock sufficient Tabasco to spice up food as it is never spicy enough for this fun Romanian sailing expert !
