Riley Harris
I am a 32 year old, physically fit and eager to learn, individual from the mountains of Western Canada. Growing up in the mountains may not seem like the ideal place to harbour a love for sailing, which is why my story is unique. My first taste of sailing was aboard the tall ship SV Concordia, in 2004. I was eighteen and embarked on a year long journey across the globe, logging over 30, 000 nm, 300 days a) visiting over 30 countries along the way.
Aboard the ship, we were not only students, but crew as well. Taking many seamanship and navigational classes. Upon leaving the Class Afloat experience I feel I am not only a competent sailor, but a better human being, ready to see and explore everything and anything the world has to offer.
Apart from this experience, I have been on multiple sailing adventures. This includes many trips along the west coast of British Columbia, as well as a two week journey along the Leeward Islands in the Caribbean. Also, a 4 month trip from Ireland, along the Norwegian coast and up to Svalbard.
I am a young, hard working individual with a deep passion for learning and exploring. I am always open to new experiences and carry a positive can-do attitude everywhere life takes me. Plus, I've lived in close quarters for a year, which is one of life's major tests of character.
