Cruising Kangaroo Island, South Australia
Crew wanted for 1-3 weeks.
Possibility for a beginner or experienced sailor looking for more sea time. We do this trip once or twice a year for the last 7+ years.
Sailing plan is to leave from Adelaide and visit Kangaroo Island (maybe head towards Port Lincoln stopping at islands along the way and also visit the Sir Joseph Banks group of islands if the crew is willing and able and time and weather allow)
The trip is usually around 200 miles in total (or 400-500 miles if we get to port Lincoln and surrounding islands). We try to find dolphins and sea lions for a bit of fun.
The boat is a seaworthy and solid ocean going 35 monohull. There are six beds on board and one toilet. We just share expenses as we go which means people chip in upfront. I don’t want to do tabs or chase people for payment.
So now a little about me. I am 41 years old and I have visited about 75 countries and backpacked through many parts of the world. I also do cycle touring and, sea-kayaking. I have two young sons and a beautiful wife. I consider myself an experienced yacht captain with RYA qualifications and 20 years yacht sailing and owning experience on keel boats. I have done many thousands of sea miles Single-handed and many more with crew.
As a profession, I was a marine engineer in the military/defence industry and also an engineering manager in the mining industry.
I have sailed yachts from Darwin to Adelaide Australia, around Thailand, Malaysia to Philippines, Greece, Turkey and been a passenger on a motor vessel from Australia to Canada stopping at New Zealand, Tahiti, Bora Bora, Hawaii and Canada. I have also done various deliveries and offshore races and sail several times per week in South Australia.
The purpose of this trip is to have fun and visit some islands, hiking where possible. We move when we have seen enough and we try to keep to nice weather so that we can have a great time.
I cannot guarantee any destinations or exact times, as it’s all weather dependent.
People with an inability to read and chill out waiting for weather to improve are not really suited to the sailing lifestyle. If this is you, please try another boat.
Thanks for reading and fair winds.
