Watch: Sailing Norla
Vanuatu or New Caledonia to Australia
We are a fit fifties couple looking for a capable crew member to accompany us on a crossing from Vanuatu (Port Vila) or alternatively from New Caledonia (Noumea) to Australia on our 12 meter classic timber yacht. We are looking for a personable & good communicator, you should expect to do 4 hour watches on rotation with the two of us and preferably have good all round sailing experience, ie be capable of helming, sail set and trim and a basic understanding of navigation with electronic plotters, wind instruments etc. Our plan is to leave Vanuatu with a good weather window and potentially stopping over at New Caledonia on the way. The crossing is approximately 330N/M Pt Vila to Noumea and 860 Noumea to Coffs Harbour, Australia. Food wise, we are mostly plant based/vegetarian with some fish) & we ask that you make a contribution. You will have a tunnel berth for the crossing (no cabins on this little classic), you will need to supply your own sleeping bag, wet weather gear, PFD and preferably a harness. Norla is a very well built and designed sea boat (1960 Halvorsen), and well fitted out for ocean crossings, but is not hugely spacious. You can find our channel on youtube, Sailing Norla, if you'd like to learn more of her and us, (so you need to be comfortable on camera too). You will need to find your own way to and from departure and arrival ports, have a current passport and any necessary visas. We are currently in Fiji leaving for Vanuatu in a few days so will not be able to respond immediately if still at sea. We look forward to hearing from you.. :)
