Looking for a Novice Crew or Friendship position
Hello Crewbay Folks- Fall of 2024, I sailed approximately 1000miles over the course of 3.5-weeks. After a few days exploring Tenerife, Spain myself and the boat captain took 2-hour shifts sailing to Madeira, Portugal. We encountered 15' seas and 40-knot winds. I became comfortable using electronic navigation and also a wind pulley system. After a week exploring Madeira, I was in a rotation with 2-other crew members sailing from Madeira to Robot, Morocco including night-time sailing toward the straight of Gibraltar. The boat was not in good repair and was taking on water. In the height of 15' seas and 40-knot winds there was some exciting issues that occurred. I feel that I obtained significant experience during these less than fortunate circumstances. Prior to this journey my sailing experience had been mostly on dive boats in the Caribbean and Berry Islands some years ago. I'm a competent SCUBA diver with hundreds of dives, although they were more than 7-years ago. I've been a registered nurse historically and have medical skills that include Emergency room and critical care experiences. I'm pretty easy-going in tense situations and like to be an effective team member. I'm also a pretty good chef and have had a gourmet catering business historically. I am a novice sailor and still need to learn many things to become a competent crew member. I'm also a mosaic artist and sculptor and am proficient with many tools and scaling large projects. I'm interested in finding a position as a Novice Crew or Friendship position. I'm looking forward to meeting some new people!
I'm considering a spring 2025 trip in the Caribbean and to possibly tack on a week or so of sailing around Southern Italy [Sicily] in mid to late June.
She has the ability to be a very good crew member.
Thank you, Theresa, for your review. On a personal note, regarding Theresa, she is full of spirit and one of my life friends, hopefully, for which I'm happy to have in my circle. Sailing attribute: Theresa came as a novice, but she has certainly not left as one. The good thing about Theresa is that she knows her limitations and will never be in the shadows for asking for advice. For that, I'm extremely grateful that she felt comfortable at any time of the day or night to call me to the helm for clarification when she was on watch. It certainly was a baptism of fire in the weather we had and she took it well. However, she mentioned Questina in her review as an old boat ?. Yes, but absolutely solid, and I'm so pleased I was with Questina than any other modern boat. Water ingress could have been determined a lot earlier if it were highlighted earlier. Alll boats encounter problem's, no matter what their age in harsh conditions, especially after 3 months at sea. So, with Theresa and the crew she sailed with havijg little or no mechanical knowledge, I consider her comments an unfair judgment for her to determine the yachts capabilities, in that Theresa resigned Questina to coastal sailing only. I just need to put the page straight that Questina is formidable and that all repairs are underway and wil be ready to sail again in November 2024. However, thank you for the comments about my own diligence.. Take care.
