Currently in the Caribbean (st Lucia) Sailor seeking crewing opportunities. Able to help with all maintenance procedures
I am currently in the Caribbean looking for sailing adventures. Seasoned sailor and motivated boat maintenance worker(apprenticeship served mechanic). I lived on my own boat for 5 years, spacially aware respectful of your home and appreciate we all need time and space sometimes when confined living space is what we have. Open to all aspects of boat life.Happy by nature and always open to learning and trying new things.
Sailing.
I have been fortunate to sail a variety of vessels including a square rigged Brigantine, a gaff rigged traditional wooden ketch, cats and monohulls. I owned my own boat which I lived restored and learned to sail on. I do have an rya day skipper certificate but learnt good sailing with a race team I spent about 3 years with doing both summer a winter seasons with.
I have completed several long passages non stop of 5 days or more with the longest being the Atlantic crossing which took 18 days on a 36ft boat. I have also done some solo passages and covered in excess of 10k nm .I have also used and confident with electric winches.
Boat maintenance
I am an apprenticeship served qualified mechanic, I am competent with plumbing and most electrics(lithium is new to me so best left to the experts) I have some good woodwork skills gained from courses and 8 months served on a traditional wooden ketch which was self maintained. Also good with a needle and thread.
I am always happy to help with your "to do" lists from servicing engines winches to cleaning heads and stantions or anything else within my capabilities.
Why have me as crew!
I am spacially aware and respectful that I am a guest in your home, clean and tidy non smoker and social drinker. A happy person who likes to keep spirits high. I work well under pressure being able to maintain a presence of mind when things start to get tricky. I have some cooking skills and always happy to clean up for those who cook better than I can in exchange.
Respectful that people need space and quiet times when living in the confined space of a boat but also happy to join in with the downtime activities.
So if you have made it this far please drop me a message so we can discuss requirements and expectations.
Kind regards
Ian
Lots of very useful skills
I met Ian in Portugal, where we hoped to go sailing but we’re not allowed because of Covid. However Ian used his time to fix a number of issues and minor problems on the boat and demonstrated that he would be a very useful crew member if anything went wrong. A former mechanic, he is also good with plumbing and electrics and did a wonderful job restoring some woodwork damaged by water stains. Excellent. Can’t say anything about his sailing skills as we could not go out, so I’ll leave that to others.
