Q&A

10

Q: What’s your favourite boating experience? Cruising full time aboard our yacht in the Caribbean.

Q: What’s your worst boating experience? Huge ferry doing about 25 kts overtaking close to us whilst we were under sail. Trinidad.

Q: What are your sailing ambitions? What’s the next challenge? To secure a position onboard a motor or sailing yacht as a management couple, and to take exceptionally good care of the vessel as well as the owners and their guests.

Q: How long have you been boating and what made you start? Was chosen for 2 years conscription in the South African Navy as a weapons Officer onboard a Naval Strike Craft. Average cruising speed 32kts. We were almost full time at sea and logged over 93 000nm in two years! Held the rank as Warrant Officer. Seriously hard work, tough conditions - loved it!

Q: What is your favourite boat and why? We enjoy both yachts and motoryachts, so hard to say! Really enjoy full sails up and the thrill of monohull sailing!

Q: Where’s your favourite boating destination? Tobago Cays..

Q: What is the longest passage you’ve completed without stops? Cape Town - St. Helena 13 days and then another 14 days on to Recife, Brazil. SA Navy 23 days operational exercises.

Q: What’s your funniest experience? Watching guests jumping around and screaming with many flying fish landing in and on the boat!!!

Q: What is it about being on the water that makes you tick? Freedom!!! 360 deg. of water all around you cannot easily be explained. Some love, some hate it.

Q: Gin and Tonic in a beautiful anchorage or trimming the sails to get an extra half knot? Trimming the sails, not even negotiable! Sails up - heeled over and cutting through the water is better than anything at anchor, alongside or ashore! Can't wait to let go and sail!
