Adventurous world traveler - Deckhand or Delivery Crew
I am an adaptable lover of the ocean, as a semi-retired engineer I have a thorough understanding of all systems aboard. I am focused on my sailing career currently. Most recently in September 2019 I delivery a 40' ketch with it's owner from Dominican Republic to St Thomas USVI, on the heels of Hurricane Dorian. In June of 2019 sailed 10 days in Puget Sound and San Juan Islands. In April 2018 I installed radar, sonar and refrigeration in order to prep the vessel for 4 weeks sailing with the owner of the boat as skipper. We successfully and safely navigated through out the Florida Keys out to the Dry Tortuga's and back to his home slip in Cape Coral.
Summer of 2017 I completed my first Trans-Atlantic Crossing. Responsibilities included 24 hour watches, cooking, docking, boat maintenance and repair. I have a good understanding of all vessel systems, water, diesel and electrical. I am physically fit and healthy with a very flexible lifestyle. I have been lucky enough to travel all over the world, Far East, Middle East, Europe, Africa and South America primarily by air. I am a medical technology executive with a love for the ocean. At this point in my life I want to travel at sea level. I am currently on sabbatical from my profession.
I am a deckhand the 100T M/V Block Island Ferry. Point Judith to Block Island Rhode Island. My primary responsibilities reports to the 1st mate are: Passenger comfort and safety, manning my position as assigned daily for fire onboard, man overboard and unsecured cargo, parking vehicles (car and tracker trailers), docking for load and unload and securing the vessel for overnight.
I love to cook and I have been told I am good at it. I can create tasty and healthy meals for vegans and enthusiastic meat lovers.
I own a small 22' Tripp inboard for day trips on the coast of Maine. I have sailed on vacation in the caribbean 38 and Windjammers'. I have also worked aboard and piloted a 48' Viking tuna fishing out of Cape Cod, for day trips. I have general knowledge of piloting and seamanship, but I am looking at this point in my career to work on the water and follow my passion. I am considered calm during intense moments and adventurous. I am looking to log sea miles/hours, in order to pursue captains license for charters or delivery. I love people and work hard. I have no history of motion sickness, I am at peace on the water.
