Looking for a Novice Crew position
Hi, I'm Pia, 25 years old, and I'm from Germany. Growing up in a sailing family, I have been spending a lot of time on sailboats and by the sea since I was a child. My parents initially spent a lot of time with my brother and me on charter boats in the Netherlands (Dutch inland seas and the IJsselmeer), the German-Danish Baltic Sea, and the Masurian Lakes in Poland. After my parents bought their first sailboat (7 feet), we spent a lot of time on the German-Dutch Wadden Sea and the North Sea. We also took regular Mediterranean trips with charter boats (in Croatia, Greece, Malta, and Turkey). Even after acquiring a second, larger sailboat, we continued to sail multiple trips, primarily in the Wadden Sea. I haven't obtained a license yet, but through years of experience, I've gained a lot of knowledge and can definitely find my way around sailboats and contribute.
Every time I go sailing, I fully enjoy the experience. I love the sensation of moving solely by the power of wind and water. After completing my studies (Energy & Sustainability Management), I decided to travel with my boyfriend Tim. Since we love exploring new continents and taking on new challenges, we'd like to cross the Atlantic. Additionally, I want to travel as sustainably as possible, and sailing is naturally the best choice for long distances.
Even though I don’t have any sailing licenses to present, I can confidently say that I know how to sail. I have a strong understanding of the basics and can remain calm and helpful even in stressful situations. I'm also quite handy, thanks to my family, who taught me a lot of practical skills. For example, I converted our own camper van together with my father. Additionally, I'm highly organized and always tidy. I'm used to living harmoniously with others in tight spaces, thanks to numerous family trips on sailboats, living in a van, and in shared apartments. This has also taught me how to handle other people's property with care and responsibility. Moreover, I'm a very helpful and respectful person and take pleasure in making others happy. I also enjoy cooking and have some delicious recipes up my sleeve (including vegetarian ones).
To give you an even better impression of who I am, I should definitely mention that I’m an active person by nature. I love doing outdoor sports. During my three years of studying in Austria, I developed a love for the mountains, in addition to my love for the sea. Whether it’s skiing and snowboarding, mountain biking, road cycling, climbing, surfing, or playing beach volleyball—I enjoy it all. I’m also very grateful for having been part of a handball team for many years, where I experienced the value of close teamwork. Lastly, my best friend says, "There’s no better company than Pia, partly because she always finds a solution, spreads joy, and is someone you can always rely on."
