1. Security of information

Crewbay takes the security of your information very seriously and is committed to ensuring UK standards of data protection are adhered to.

Crewbay uses a 256 bit encryption (SSL). This secures the browser connection between visitors and your website. All transmitted data is therefore neither visible or available to third parties.

2. Information about you

Crewbay collects two types of information:

Aggregate information - This is data we collect about a group or category of services or users from which all personal information is removed. We collect this information to trend the way our members use our service we can better understand what is working well with Crewbay and where there's room for improvement, all of which provides a better service for our members. We do not share this information with any third parties company.

Personal information - Personal information is the data directly associated with an individual users identity (username, password, email address, etc) as well as information about activities relating to that person.

3. Information you give us

Registration - When you register with Crewbay we take personal information directly relating to you. We also take information based around your requirements whether that's looking for a boat or crew. Images, data files, written descriptions or statements can (at your discretion) be uploaded to your profile. At any time, you can logon and delete any part of your profile or even the whole profile itself. This personal information is not aggregate information.

Automatically collected information

We automatically take information from when you interact with our service, for example your IP address, browser information, referral information, session duration, device type, and what pages you visit. This is not personal information. This is aggregate information that helps us understand our user base, manages the effectiveness of online advertising and helps measure the success of the service.

Interactions between members

Our service enables you to communicate with other members or to post information to be accessed by others, including your automatically generated advert which is publicly viewable. When you communicate with other members, they may view and collect your data. We have setup privacy settings to allow you to manage your own privacy. Our privacy settings provide 4 categories (hidden, verified members, registered members and public) for members to select at their digression.

Crewbay withholds the right to hide any information on any account we deem unfit or inappropriate to the service we provide.

If you've registered as a professional crew member, you'll have the option of uploading your CV. When you apply for a professional position, Crewbay shares your uploaded CV with the recruiter. Before applying, you have the option to untick the box that says ‘Share your CV with this recruiter'. This option overides your privacy settings.

For example; if your privacy setting for your CV is set to ‘Verified members only' and the recruiter (boat member) is not verified. This recruiter will not be able to view your CV in your profile, but will be able to in the application if you have the box ticked. Unticked will mean he can't view your CV.

4. Managing your Privacy

Crewbay strictly doesn't show at any level of membership; email addresses, first names, last names and passwords.

Crewbay allows you to hide, make viewable to members or make viewable to verified members, a selection of data and images:

Images - Profile image and image gallery

Data - Phone number, Skype, URL, CV, experience log (free form text) and Q and A (free form text).

Data that doesn't have a privacy setting inlcude:

Crew profile - Username, location (country), profile statement (free form text), profile statement title (free form text), required position, availability, location preference, expected arrangement, nationality, age, gender, fluent languages, VISA's held, smoker, maritime qualifications, skills cloud.

Profile statement & Title (advert text) - Your advert is publicly viewable which is clearly stated when filling it out. Any information typed in here is at the users own risk. We advise not to add any personal information just stipulate your requirements.

Images - Crewbay allows you to upload images to your profile. By uploading an image you are making that image available to other members. You can alter your privacy setting for your main profile picture and any additional pictures.

5. Cookies

What are cookies?

A cookie is a piece of information in the form of a very small text file that is placed on an internet user's computer. It is generated by a web page server (which is basically the computer that operates the web site) and can be used by that server whenever the user visits the site. A cookie can be thought of as an internet user's identification card, which tells a web site when the user has returned.

Cookies can't harm your computer and we don't store any personally identifiable information about you on any of our cookies.

Crewbay uses first and third party cookies:

a) First party cookies enable us to keep you signed in to your account throughout your visit and to tailor the information displayed on the site to your preferences, such as recommending jobs. If you reject our cookies, you will be able to access those parts of our site available to the general public, but not some of the site's features or services, and you may have a less satisfactory experience.

b) Third party cookies are set Crewbay on behalf of a third party supplier. Crewbay uses Google Analytics. The purpose of this is to collect aggregate information so we can evaluate the performance of the site. This allows us to accurately measure the number of visits, duration, unique visitors, drop-off rate, etc.

c) We monitor activity so we can further improve the site and see what works and what doesn't, providing you with a good quality service.

How to control and delete cookies

If you wish to restrict or block the cookies which are set by Crewbay, or indeed any other website, you can do this through your browser settings. If you're not sure where to access this, try clicking the help button within the browser menu.

6. Sharing information via social media

Only you have the means to share your profile on your own social media page (e.g. Facebook).

Crewbay has the right to share boating opportunity posts on Crewbay's social media pages. Crewbay only shares what's already public (advert title and advert text). This is to generate more interest in the opportunity the member is offering.

7. Transactions

All transactions are carried out via Paypal.

For any transaction on Crewbay you will be diverted to a secure Paypal page, where you'll be asked to enter your transaction details or login to your Paypal account for an even more secure payment.
