Hello guys, there is a ad in the site to go onboard with CHAKRA CRUISE , I have been contacted and they told me I have been selected. However they are asking for a security money deposit claiming that they have been robbed before. I wanted to check with you guys if any other have been contacted and what do you think it sounds like?

Cheers

Yes. I got the same email. I even sent my personal details. They asked me for 3500 beore I joined the vessell. Just btw the chakra as the changed to another name like Florida sails or something. I told the I didn't steal and wasn't prepared to pay for someone else's sticky fingers and that bag checks by security would be something they could utilise. Havnt heard from the swines since!

Hi
I am trying to gain experience and would even consider a flotilla, however I would like to find other like minded people who may wish to share a yacht to gain experience also having completed RYA Day Skipper.Looking at Med or similar.
It helps if more heads get around the table.
I would even consider getting 3 or 2 others together to do another 6 days in Portugal on a training yacht to get experience then maybe progress as a group to med.
Feel free to throw in some thoughts ,I am sure there are plenty of us early retirees with lots of time but no sailing buddies.

Hi Joey, I am another retiree with no crew.

I have done a lot of flotilla trips with SailingHolidays.com who offer a share-a-yacht option, 4 people on a 36ft Benetteau. They arrange the crews from the singles or couples who book for a given trip. No previous experience required at all, so they do try to mix experienced sailors and novices when making up the crews but it does just depend on who has booked share-a-yacht flotilla for that flotilla.

Other than that then you can find some good options here on crew-bay. I have booked up for 3 crew-bay trips totalling 5 weeks so far this year.

Just looking back through posts and don't beleive I replied to you ,so sorry if I had not.
Thanks for the heads up.I have just returned from a 1 week floatilla trip and learned a huge amount of practical.
If you are ever up for a trip ,floatilla or bareboat give me a shout.

I recently replied to a message from the Captain/Owner of this boat, Captain Bill Thornton, who has a current posting on this site and also a recent posting on this forum. He was looking for crew to accompany him on a voyage from Panama to the Sea of Cortez. I was not really looking for a berth, but decided to reply to his message. After we exchanged a few messages and talked for about 1/2 hour on the phone, and after viewing his FB pages, I got on a plane and met him at the boat in Panama City, So did 2 other crew. We spent 5 days prepping the boat during which time several incidents occurred which introduced doubts in our minds about the trip. We cast off on March 18th at 6am. A few minutes after the engine was started and before releasing the bow lines from the mooring ball the Captain shouted to me that the NavPod was not turning on, thus no chart plotter, no instrument readings, no radar, no AIS, etc. A quick inspection showed no apparent reason. We left the Balboa Yacht Club marina and sailed out into the Gulf of Panama. That evening the auto pilot ceased working shortly after dark and as we encountered some rough seas. Other issues with the boat and the captain came to light on that 420nm first leg to Golfito in Costa Rica. On March 21st we fueled and watered, and a hole in the boat was repaired that was acquired when we hit the dock upon arrival, At 7am on March 22nd the Captain announced we were leaving in 3 hours and he asked us to get the boat ready for departure. We inquired about the NavPod and Autopilot repairs. He said they had not been fixed. I decided at that time to not continue the trip. The other 2 crew said they would continue if the NavPod and the AP were repaired. Over the course of the next few days they were, but they failed again during the 2nd leg of the trip. On March 28th, after a refueling stop in the Gulf of Papagayo, CR the boat was hit by a gust, and a jib sheet parted, followed by the roller furler failing. Some hours later the engine lost oil pressure and seized. The boat was towed into a marina in Nicaragua, where she is (April 9, 2017) now undergoing repairs. The other two crew were able to secure berths on a catamaran, the "Spirit of Michaelmas" from Australia. The Captain remains in Nicaragua supervising repairs. More information is available about this boat/captain from 2 members of this crew and also the 2 crew who took the boat thru the Canal in February of this year. The recommendation is you contact us before traveling to this boat.

Have others noticed that crew applying for work from some countries are all seemingly very laid back and courteous to the person hiring. And some other countries it appears that about 10% are extremely aggressive and demanding.
I'm not going to name the countries of which I speak.
Just an observation, and I wondered if others notice it also?

SCAM ALERT FOR YACHT CREW!!!

Couple friends of mine have recently joined www.crewbay.com looking for boating opportunities. A registered user named Blue Yachts with a job offer has contacted them. The names of representatives are Capt. Alex Zadis and Dr. R.F. Chandris, Sr. Jonathan Voss.

The scam details are the following:
- they will recruit for a job on a luxury yachts and instruct to travel to Italy at your expense to join the vessel at Naples or Agropoli;
- upon arrival you are requested to pay Guarantee Deposit Money, Port Authority Taxes, Training fee, etc. Fees vary between 500-700 euros;
- once fees are paid you are told that yacht has experienced mechanical problem and is docked/tagged at/to different location. You are being instructed to travel to new location but eventually you are advised to go back home;
- ALL or MOST expenses are on YOU!
- You are promised to be reimbursed upon joining the ship, which will NEVER happen!!!

The scenarios seem to change/advance slightly from case to case but the bottom line is to get money of you.
Contract and joining papers seem real but unprofessional. Company name, name of representatives and address are non-existent! They claim to represent private yacht owners, not an official agency, do not have official web site for the sake of “safety & security of VIP guests”, call you from unidentified number and do not provide any emergency contacts. Will say anything to keep you from reporting to legal authorities!
We have contacted REAL yacht employees and have been assured it is a SCAM. We are positive the names, location and story line will change as soon as the word spreads out.

PLEASE BE VIGILANT!!! Ask questions, do a background check prior to sending your personal information and traveling to foreign country. These guys were getting aggressive and reserved to threats when being asked for more details. At the end of the day, it may be your life at risk

I found a position advertised here on Crewbay, by DREAM SEA. After interviews, contracts, emails with "Capt" I arrive in Sapri, Italy to obtain final documents for Yacht paying over €500 (which was going to be reimbursed) having spent the morning with a fake "ship inspector" I then arrive at Port with no pick up agent or Yacht. I replied to an ad on this Crewbay site for steward on a Heesen 62 called Miss Maquinna Mist I believe it is located in Vancouver BC. The Yacht owner goes by Fly. I cannot find any record of this yacht it is supposedly registered in Panama. Has anyone had any experience on this yacht? This is my first time crewing and I don't know what kinds of questions to ask or what information I should have before I do. Thanks so much. -Rachel

I believe its a 65M. My oh my what a stunner.
Too rich for me though.
Just the helicopter the owner has as his shuttle, is worth many times more than most yachts.
Congratulations on getting a spot.
Us yacht owners on our mere 1 million to 10 million dollar bath tubs, call that beauty the Ship of Dreams.
Did wrangler a short ride with him on his heli last summer.
Man of few words, but friendly enough.

Anchored in Bamfield harbour today my friend said, three boats over from his. Getting ready to head west on the open ocean to Hawaii soon the Captain mentioned when in town.
You are incredibly fortunate to make Crew on her decks Thalassofile.
Have a great time on your journey.
The fancy Helicopter usually adorning her deck is missing i heard.
Is the owner off for a time Thalassofile?
That white/green/black tender they slip out the side varage.
Is that 22/24 feet long you figure?
God it is wicked fast.
What does it have as power?
Must run 50 knots plus I reckon?
Nicer Tender than many have as a main vessel!

Hi,
I'm very new here, and am looking to work/crew/clean/cook on yacht back to the United States this winter.
Does anyone know if it is feasible to find a boat willing to take me?
I have limited sailing experience, but can put up with any conditions, have a good attitude, and work hard.
If anyone has suggestions for finding someone, please let me know!

Hi I'm Magalina Masso aka Maggzz

I have always wanted to travel and just go live on a boat.

The closest I've been on a boat is the Sterling Casino for 2 hours and that really doesn't count because I was indoors the whole time.

I love to travel and I love to have a good time. (not sexual)

I have no sea miles on the water but I am a quick learner and would love the chance to show you I can learn and be a asset to your trip.

I do have 1 cat which she can stay in my room but she's my life so I can't just abandon her so I know when most look at this they are gonna be "ARE YOU CRAZY" ???

No skills and 1 cat well let me add this on to drop your mouth a little wider.

I have tattoos and I smoke weed.

I DO NOT DO DRUGS NOR DRINK (LIKE 2X A YR IF THAT)

I smoke weed for pain because I don't do drugs but there's a time and a place for everything and I know how to act like a lady and how to be totally laid back off the chain fun.

I know there's a time and place for everything.

So why should you choose me ???

Because I have no baggage but my cat who is clean and you will love her just like her fans. She has a YouTube and Facebook page and everyone loves her.

I want this bad and willing to learn any tasks that are asked of me within reason.

I will never leave you hanging and if shit goes down I will have "YOUR BACK'.

I am a hard worker and can't get enough of learning about the boats, water while traveling to places I only see on YouTube.

Talk to me for a few minutes and see.

What do you have to loose but a few minutes of your time.

Don't judge this book by it's cover because there is so much too it just got to read into it. :)

If you have a problem with my cat don't hit me up 'WE'RE A PACKAGE DEAL !!!!

She doesn't destroy anything and she's very clean and again she can stay in my cabin.

Can contribute some money so let's talk.

Hugzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Magalina Masso (YouTube It)

**********MY DREAM*****

As I wake up wiping my eyes to open them and start my day I'm still not sure if I am awake.
As I put on my robe and walk into what should be my house I walk into the surroundings of a boat.
I look out the window on my left then right again and again and think could this be real it can't be.

I walk with every step picture of the pace till I reach the top of the boat and look at the most beautiful picture that is spread before me.

I walk to the edge and look down and around surrounding by water and a tear drops down my face.

I suddenly hear a voice and turn around and see "YOU" holding my cat BABYGIRL (on her leash) and say "SO HOW DOES IT FEEL TO KNOW YOUR DREAM IS REALITY NOW".

I take my BABYGIRL into my arms and say loud enough that I know I'm no longer sleeping "WE'RE FINALLY IN THE HOME WE'RE SUPPOSE TO BE IN" and as I kiss her forehead she meows in agreement.

AND THEN YOU PUSH US OVERBOARD AND WE GET EATEN BY SHARKS AND RIPPED APART AND AS THE BLOOD SEEPS INTO THE OCEAN YOU HURRY AND GRAB YOUR FISHING POLOE AND CATCH A BADAZZ TROUT LOLOLOLOL

Ok well I hope the 2nd part won't happen that would totally suck but hey at least you get my sense of humor when I smoke weed.

Yes people I was in so much pain this am from nerve damage to my leg I smoked and decided to write this blog before I go work out.
See not all potheads are lazy and act like this is your brain this is your brain on drugs type of shit lololol

This is a warning to all crewbay members. I am sharing my personal experience here so nobody else has to go through the unfortunate situation I went through.
The owner of MY Caspa is looking for a captain to cruise the Greek islands and the Turkish coast. For two months last summer I worked as captain on this yacht and it was a miserable affair since the minute I arrived on the yacht. I won't tell you about the illegal charters where the owner stays onboard during the charter without any proper documentation for himself or guests, and that he drinks and argues with guests saying it's his yacht and if they don't like it get off. I will not go on and on about how many things were wrong, how many things I was forced to do illegally and how many rules and regulations the owner disregarded as unimportant as he made his own rules and regulations. Though I will tell you that the owner is a raging alcoholic and proudly admits it. He drinks on a daily basis, anywhere between 4 and 8+ bottles of wine a day, without exception. He physically and verbally abuses his girlfriend and his crew constantly.
When speaking to the owner on the phone he comes across as a very correct British gentleman but this is all a smokescreen hiding the raging alcoholic that this man truly is. I reported the owner and his yacht to the MCA as it is a commercial vessel, but due to the lack of cooperation from the Turkish coast guard, no legal action could be taken on Turkish waters.

So be warned as this can happen again if he is allowed to hire new crew here on crewbay or any other crew site.

Any other recollections of people's experiences on MY Caspa are welcome.

Sincerely,

A disgruntled captain

SCAM ALERT FOR YACHT CREW!!!! By: Iryna Replies: 1 Views: 178

- they will recruit for a job on a luxury yachts and instruct to travel to Italy at your expense to join the vessel at Naples or Agropoli;
- upon arrival you are requested to pay Guarantee Deposit Money, Port Authority Taxes, Training fee, etc. Fees vary between 500-700 euros;
- once fees are paid you are told that yacht has experienced mechanical problem and is docked/tagged at/to different location. You are being instructed to travel to new location but eventually you are advised to go back home;

At the end of the day, it may be your life at risk!

It's Thanksgiving Day 2015. I'm a crew member, on Alvei, who is in New Zealand waiting for her to arrive in late December. If anyone wants to learn from a sailing master, and have a comfortable cabin, on a 115" tall ship where you can go aloft and get experience at the helm, Alvei is a great boat. The cost is reasonable, and she may be the one of the only tall ships currently in the South Pacific islands. She is at port in Port Vila, Vanuatu, which is simply gorgeous. I just left there last week.

hello! I would like to warn everybody who wants to take part in INFINITY EXPEDITIONS. I just came back after sailing with them for two months around Philippines, Palau and FSM. We did visit some incredible places, but if your health, time and money are important to you, then please think twice before joining them. Safety and sanitary conditions aboard were bad, diving wasn't organised properly, atmosphere was tedious, captain owes thousands of dollars to paying crew members, etc... Please read the following articles, if you are considering to join the INFINITY EXPEDITIONS. The first one is the article I wrote, while I was still aboard and the second one is a proper review written by another ex crew member.

Check it out from current affairs website:

"Billionaire Roman Abramovich’s recent possession, “The Eclipse Yacht” was in the news lately for its size. The Yacht recently was named as the world’s largest private Yacht. However, according to the data from C&N, an international Yacht broker firm “Eclipse” falls short of 24ft. than the previously circulated figure. As per the data, length of the Yacht stands at 533ft which is not too longer compared to the previous largest private yacht owned by the Dubai Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum. Infact the Dubai sheikh who owns a shipyard now may add few metals to his boat and retain the lost spot for his yacht."

Hi
You are very unlikely to get a working passage on a ship as you need proper seaman qualifications to make up the required crewing complement.you look to small sailing yachts as a pleasure passage although most ask for a contribution towards your cost, food etc.

Cheapest way is likely to have your family book you a ticket as most yachts leave from the canary islands onto the Caribbean around November and December

Ask the Owner / Skipper for past or current crew contact details?
Ask if the vessel has safety equipment?
Ask for a character reference for Skipper?
If UK vessel is it part of CG66 scheme?

Hope that is of some help
SY Voya
SY Voya Posted: 2015-03-01 20:48
Ask for some other, independent means of verifying the identity of the skipper and boat. Treat references with some skepticism unless you can be sure they where not written by mates of the skipper. Skype is great, as the saying goes a picture is worth a thousand words. Scans or pic's of registration documents and qualifications can be good as well. Be aware of what you are taking on, lots of backpackers on here seam to be looking to cross oceans without any prior experience. However 'nice' they are as people I don't consider it fair to take someone on a trip unless they have enough experience to make there own assessment of the dangers and difficulties. You don't need to be able to skipper a trip across an ocean to take part but you do need to understand what it may be like to be stuck in a gale offshore for three days! The other thing to think about is that small boats are a very 'close' environment with little privacy and probably a mixed sex crew. In my experience 'improper' behavior is rare but as a young female you need to know what it will be like and be prepared for it.
When it come time though you will be meeting an unknown person so think of personal safety, arrange to meet in a public place, join the boat in a marina, have a means of bailing out if you are worried and do a short sail before committing to a long trip. As skipper who seems reluctant to meet any reasonable requirements you have around your personal safety would, in my book, be dubious. Having said that if it is a professional skipper/delivery rules are different and they should have company references etc same as any other job.
The skipper is in the same position, they are inviting somebody on board that they don't know, may be hopeless, may break thing or be out with seasickness for half the voyage etc. It is stressful for both of you so allow for that.
Hope that helps
SY Voya
SY Voya Posted: 2015-03-01 20:53
As a PS.
If you are a young, inexperienced person wanting to 'have a go' at sailing and looking for a boat best thing you can do is take a competent crew course at a sailing school. Shows commitment and assures the skipper you at least know basic safety and can tie a knot and your instructor can provide a reference. Otherwise you are basically a passenger not crew.

I just got a message with an odd job message to be a steward for a large cruise ship with Royal Caribbean International Cruise.

The message is from a "Captain", and does not provide any detail of the actual roles or responsibilities or even qualification requirements of the steward position. He also mentioned I would need to pay $250 for the 2 week training prior to the trip but the pay would be $4500 per month.

Is this an obvious scam or is it at all normal for a Captain to be personally involved in looking for steward crew for a ship with 370 passengers?

Hi Jules

I don't personally but check out Gumtree.com, I believe this what most people use to find accommodation.

Enjoy the games, I will be down that way to see some of the sailing events, should be good.
